The coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread across over 100 countries worldwide, causing it to be classified as a pandemic. As a result numerous music festivals, from Coachella to SXSW, have been either postponed or cancelled all together, out of fears of spreading the infection. Numerous tours have also been cancelled as a result, as artists have been discouraged from holding mass public gatherings.
Festival cancellations and postponements:
– Coachella and Stagecoach: The largest music festival in Southern California and the largest country music festival in the region have both been moved to October.
– SXSW: Unlike Coachella, SXSW has been cancelled completely this year, and unfortunately 2020 badgeholders cannot receive refunds. They can choose to defer their enrollment for next year, or the 2022/2023 editions of the event however.
– Ultra Music Festival MIami: Like SXSW, this event was cancelled and ticketholders will be unable to receive refunds. Ticketholders can use this pass to enter the 2021 or 2022 editions of the event.
– Big Ears: Big Ears has been cancelled as well, although the Knoxville-based event will be issuing an email regarding refund details in the coming days.
– Treefort Music Fest: Like Coachella, the Treefort Music Fest has been rescheduled to take place this fall, at the end of September. Those who cannot make this rescheduled event can inquire about refunds.
– Overpass: The Overpass Music Festival was supposed to be held on March 7th, but it was cancelled a couple of weeks prior to its scheduled date.
Cancelled Tour Dates:
– Russian Circles: The post-metal outfit Russian Circles have made an announcement on Instagram indicating that they will not be performing in Europe until later this year.
– Fleshgod Apocalypse: The Italian symphonic metal band Fleshgod Apocalypse have also postponed their tour this year.
– KISS: Classic rock outfit KISS will also be avoiding the road for their scheduled meet-and-greets. Consequence of Sound states that the band will be performing live however.
– New Order: Post-punk/ synth-pop icons New Order have recently announced on social media that they will be cancelling their upcoming appearances in Japan.
– The National: Indie rock outfit The National have also cancelled their upcoming tours in Asia and Oceania for the time being.
– Green Day: Influential pop punk outfit Green Day will also be skipping out on their scheduled tours in Asia this year.
– Wolf Parade: Indie rock outfit Wolf Parade have also announced on social media that they will be postponing their tour dates in Europe and The UK this year.
– Slipknot: Nu metal outfit Slipknot have also postponed their upcoming tour dates for Knotfest Japan and other scheduled shows on the Asian continent this year.
– Pearl Jam: Alternative rock band Pearl Jam have postponed their 2020 tour.
– Zac Brown Band: The country rock outfit Zac Brown Band announced on Instagram that they will be postponing their spring tour.
– Poppy: Alternative pop artist poppy announced that she will be postponing her UK tour dates this year.
– Guns N’ Roses: Classic rock outfit Guns N’ Roses have cancelled their planned show in Costa Rica this year.
– Lacuna Coil: Metal outfit Lacuna Coil have cancelled their upcoming tour dates across Asia and Oceania.
– Bombay Bicycle Club: The indie rock outfit Bombay Bicycle Club have postponed their upcoming tour dates across Europe.
– Mayhem: Norwegian black metal outfit Mayhem have cancelled their appearances across the west coast of the United States.
– Madball and Knocked Loose: Madball and Knocked Loose will be postponing their co-headlining tour across Europe.
Other events:
– A planned New York City benefit concert featuring Hole members Melissa Auf Der Maur and Courtney Love in support of Planned Parenthood has also been cancelled.
UPDATED (3/12):
It’s been a crazy day in which nearly artist or event that hadn’t already been affected by the Coronavirus was cancelled or postponed. Trump announced a travel ban with much of Europe last night, which may have impacted many of these announcements. Stay tuned, many more to come.
Live Nation and AEG have suspended all tours. Billie Eilish postponed her spring 2020 tour dates, as did Devin Townsend, Bikini Kill, and Pussy Riot.
– Wilco has postponed their upcoming tour dates in Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, Las Vegas and California.
The Afghan Whigs have canceled their European tour dates.
– The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced that its induction ceremony will be postponed. It was scheduled to take place May 2nd. There’s no announcement yet of a make-up date, but Rock Hall officials say it will be announced soon.
– Diiv has cancelled their European tour as well. They hope to be back to touring in the summer.
– Chelsea Wolfe’s European tour has been called off, as Sargent House has announced they’ve cancelled all tours for their artists.
– Hard rock singer Anneke Giersbergen has postponed her Anneke Goes To Church Tour until September and October 2020.
– Pixies have canceled their Australian shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Perth.
– Cher’s Here We Go Again arena tour has been postponed. Dates are already lined up for September.
– The Who have announced that the UK and Ireland legs of their tour will be rescheduled. Lead singer Roger Daltrey said that the shows will “definitely happen” and also indicated it may be the last time that The Who do this type of tour.
– Tool managed to complete most of their spring 2020 tour dates, but three shows were postponed, including their shows in Oregon, Idaho and Utah. The band recently announced series of dates in April, May and June of this year, all of which are under the threat of being postponed as well. The band has stated that they’re taking a day-to-day approach regarding moving those dates. Last week man tested positive for the virus after attending a Tool show in New Zealand.
– American Nightmare and Ceremony have cancelled their show this weekend at The Fonda.
– My Chemical Romance has postponed their reunion tour dates in Australia and New Zealand.
– Evanescence and Within Temptation have postponed their European tour dates. Evanescence said in tweet that fans should look for new music from the band, as they’re turning their focus to working on a new album during the time they would have been touring.
– According to AZ Central, The Format will be postponing their reunion tour. The shows in New York City, Chicago and Phoenix are moved to July.

– Indie rocker Jay Som has made a post on Twitter announcing the postponement of her European tour. She points out her frustration over having to postpone her tour in Europe for the second time in a row, as she did so in 2019 to get her mental health in order.
– Rock band Circa Survive has announced they’ll be postponing the first leg of the Blue Sky Noise Tour. The band says they’ll be closely monitoring the situation beforfe making a decision on leg two, which remain on the books for the time being.
– Progressive rock band Yes has cancelled their tour dates and performance on Cruise to the Edge.
– This year’s Impericon Festival, which was hosted by metalcore band As I Lay Dying, has been cancelled. The event was set to feature Jinjer, Whitechapel, and Emmure and was originally booked for April 10th to April 19th.
– Thy Art is Murder’s tour alongside Fit For An Autopsy, Enterprise Earth, Aversions Crown, Une Misère and Extinction A.D. has been cancelled. Their tour was set to take place across North America from March 12th through to April 15th.
– Polish Death metal outfit Decapitated have cancelled their tour, which was supposed to take place throughout the middle of this month. This “Faces of Death” tour was set to feature Beyond Creation, Ingested, Lorna Shore and Viscera.
– Post metal band Deaf Heaven have postponed their tour dates alongside Inter Arma, Greet Death and All Your Sisters. The bands were scheduled to tour across the United States from March 20th through to May 02nd.
– Extreme metal band Carcass have cancelled their tour across Australia, which was set to take place at the end of this month. The band is set to release an album this summer titled Torn Arteries.
– Pioneering industrial band Ministry have cancelled their tour across Australia and Japan. The group left a message on Instagram, which can be seen below:
– Sturgill Simpson has rescheduled his A Good Look’n Tour dates to take place in May. According to a statement, ticketholders for the cancelled shows will be contacted in a few days.
– Every Time I Die has postponed their live performance of their 2003 album, Hot Damn!, which was set to take place on Mar. 13, in Detroit, MI, at The Magic Stick, and on Mar. 14, in Pittsburgh, PA.
– Whitechapel have canceled their UK/European 2020 tour, due to the restrictions placed on travel in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
– The Acacia Strain has canceled their Mar. 15 show in Los Angeles, Mar. 16 show in Berkeley, CA and Mar. 17 show in Portland, OR.,due to travel restrictions as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
– We Came As Romans cancels Spring 2020 tour with The Devil Wears Prada and Dayseeker as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. We Came As Romans was set to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album, To Plant A Seed.
– The Format postpones their sold-out 2020 Reunion tour dates. The band has decided to move their tour dates to later this year in July.
– Killswitch Engage postpones the remainder of their tour dates, alongside featured acts, August Burns Red and Light The Torch. Killswitch Engage was joined by their ex-frontman, Howard Jones, on stage.
– The Australian editions of the Download Festival have been cancelled. These concerts were set to kick off in Melbourne and Sydney from March 20th to the 21st, respectively. The schedule performers included My Chemical Romance, Deftones, Jimmy Eat World, Clutch, Ministry and In Flames.
The Decibel Magazine Tour, which was set to feature the likes of Mayhem, Abbath, Gatecreeper and Idle Hands, has been cancelled. This announcement was made ahead of their stops in Seattle and San Francisco.
– Norwegian heavy metal band Kvelertak have postponed their European tour dates. Their most recent studio album release Spid came out earlier this year.
– The Something In The Water music festival hosted by Pharrell Williams featuring Beck, Usher and Clipse has been rescheduled for next year. This event was supposed to host the first performance by Clipse in over a decade.
– The Grand Ole Opry announced the suspension of all live performances which involve live audience, until Apr. 4. The Grand Ole Opry released statement on their website mentioning refunds for those whom have purchased tickets.
– Norwegian black metal band, 1349, has canceled their May U.S. tour dates. The band released as statement as they are hopeful to return to the United States as soon as circumstances allow for it.
– The Phoenix Lights 2020 festival has been rescheduled for the weekend of Oct. 2-3, will all previously purchased tickets honored for the newer dates. The festival was originally set to take place on Apr. 3-4.
– Elton John has postponed his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. A statement released has mentioned all purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates.
– American rock band, Cold, has postponed their Spring U.S. tour. The band is currently waiting for new dates to be booked, and will issue refunds for VIP tickets.
– Deftones have postponed their Australian and New Zealand Tour, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Two of the stops were set to feature Baroness. The band mentions how all remaining tickets will stay valid for the new shows.
– Silverstein has postponed their 20th anniversary tour due to the coronavirus pandemic. The band was set to tour with Four Year Strong and I The Mighty.
– Dragonforce has postponed the remainder of their U.S. tour, in which they were on the road with Unleash The Archers and Visions Of Atlantis. The band issued a statement telling fans to hold on to their tickets, as rescheduled tour dates will be announced soon.
– Black Label Society have postponed the remainder of their North American tour, with Obituary and Lord Dying. The band mentioned how rescheduled dates will be announced in the following week.
– Third Eye Blind have rescheduled their entire March US tour. It will now take place on May 31st at the Wiltern in Los Angeles and end on July 26th with a hometown show at Oakland’s Fox Theater.
– Singer-songwriter Dwight Yoakam has postponed his tour dates in Albuquerque, New Mexico and tomorrow in El Paso, Texas. His most recent album release Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars came out in 2016.
– Performer William DuVall, best known as the co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for Alice in Chains, has cancelled his tour. Some of the tour dates will be rescheduled, the ones that aren’t will provide refunds.

– One of the country’s biggest and oldest music festivals, Summerfest in Wisconsin, will be moved to September 2020. The festival organizers said this in a statement:
“The music industry has been profoundly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and most live events scheduled for early summer have been cancelled. In the interest of safety and in cooperation with artists, Summerfest 2020 will move to new dates: September 3-5, 10-12 and 17-19, 2020. The new dates provide the best possible option to deliver the Summerfest experience our fans and sponsors have grown to love; we are doing everything possible to continue a tradition which spans five decades.”

– The California Roots Music and Arts Festival has announced that it’s being moved to October 9-11. The updated flyer is below:
– Bottle Rock Napa has been moved to October 2-4. All headliners, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Nicks, Dave Matthews Band, Miley Cyrus and more will be able to perform at the moved date.
– The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has announced it will move the event to the fall.
– J. Cole’s Dreamville Fest has announced it’s being moved to August 29.
– Rock icons The Rolling Stones have announced that their No Filter tour has been moved. The 15 date tour would have begun on May 8 in San Francisco.
– Laura Marling has postponed her 2020 tour dates.
