Sean “Diddy” Combs is countersuing Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones for allegedly stealing his private footage and selling it to Netflix, Pitchfork shared. Jones previously sued the rap mogul for sexual assault, grooming and more in 2024. In complaint filed on August 11 and obtained by Pitchfork, Combs also accuses Jones of making defamatory statements in the 50 Cent-produced documentary series Sean Combs: The Reckoning.
Combs, who is serving four-plus year prison sentence on charges of transporting to engage in prostitution, is seeking an undisclosed sum of damages from Jones. He also calls for Jones to return the footage and destroy any copies still in his possession.
Jones’ original suit alleged that he connected with Combs in 2022 and worked with him through 2023, contributing production to Combs‘ The Love Album: Off the Grid. In the original suit, Jones said he was drugged, harassed and abused during this period, alleging that Combs grabbed his genitals without his consent, forced him to engage in sex acts with prostitutes and tried to “groom” him to have sex with another man. Jones also alleged that Combs did not pay him the full amount promised for his work on The Love Album and named Universal Music Group and several of its executives as defendants. He sought $30 million in damages.
Jones expanded on some of these allegations in Sean Combs: The Reckoning, making statements that Combs’ countersuit claims are defamatory. Combs has vehemently denied all of Jones’ allegations through his lawyers, and does so once again in the current countersuit. Combs‘ lawyers claim Jones is engaged in “campaign for revenge and to profit from Mr. Combs,” in some part because Combs refused to pay Jones more than the agreed-upon fee for their work together.
The four-part Netflix special went on to earn an Emmy nomination. Part of Combs‘ counterclaim over the allegedly stolen footage stems from claim that Combs is working on his own documentary about his “extraordinary and historic achievements.”
