Julian Casablancas Joins Hamilton Leithauser Onstage In Connecticut For The Strokes’ “Is This It”

Julian Casablancas of the Strokes surprised fans with guest performance of The Strokes’ “Is This It” at Hamilton Leithauser’s concert in Norwalk, Connecticut recently, Far Out Magazine shared on Instagram. This is not the first time the two artists have collaborated live; Leithauser joined The Strokes on stage earlier this month in Boston for cover of “Heaven” by Leithauser’s band, The Walkmen. The live collaboration was very intimate and low-key, almost reminiscent of a jam between friends more than a polished, professional performance. Watch below:

During Leithauser’s set, the singer told a story about the first time he went to see the Strokes and how he has been playing on tour with the band on their current tour ahead of their upcoming album, Reality Awaits. After joining Leithauser onstage, Casablancas talked about a time when he briefly lived in Norwalk before launching into the live cover of “This Is It.”

In the surprise performance, Casablancas’ classic vocal style blends nicely with the band’s live instrumentation. The prominent electric guitar and drum work create a vibe that is distinct to the Strokes and worked to wow the audience of Leithauser’s Connecticut show. “This Is It” has not been performed at any of the shows on the Strokes’ current “Reality Awaits” tour, making this not only a surprise performance but a rare one.
