According to Brooklyn Vegan, Georgia-born singer songwriter Clairo unfortunately had to cancel her appearance at Portugal’s NOS Alive festival due to a flight cancelation. Fortunately, New York-based rock band The Strokes decided to cover one of the singer’s tracks, “Sofia”, from her 2019 debut studio album Immunity

In an Instagram story, Clairo explained that her flight had been canceled and that once they had found another one, they could not secure transportation to the other airport. “It’s been a whirlwind of a tour. Hope you guys understand & I’m truly sorry. AGAIN,” the singer remarked.

Julian Casablancas and his band made the choice to cover “Sofia” as a way to pay it forward. Tame Impala previously covered the group’s 2001 hit “Last Nite” at Primavera Sound Barcelona after they were forced to cancel due to a case of Covid-19 in the band. While Tame Impala’s cover was faithful with a psychedelic flair, The Strokes’ cover was heavily autotuned and eventually morphed into a cover of Harry Styles’ smash hit “As It Was.” Still, it was fun and spontaneous and ultimately paid tribute to their fellow indie musician in a playful way. Watch the live cover below!

The past couple of years has been quite eventful for the band. They won their first Grammy award for their album The New Abnormal, they have been included on countless 2022 festival lineups including Tempelhof Sounds, Lollapalooza Argentina, Lollapalooza Brazil, This Ain’t No Picnic and Boston Calling, the latter of which they had to cancel their appearance due to Covid-19.
