On Thursday night, Olivia Rodrigo put on secret show at Warsaw. Warsaw is much smaller than the typical arena venues Rodrigo is used to playing in and will continue to play with her upcoming Unraveled Tour. Actually, with the way Rodrigo’s shows have sold out, it’s arguable that she has enough demand to be playing arenas at this point. Warsaw has a capacity of 1,100 people and is located between Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
The secret show was announced the day the show went down, earlier that morning at 10 am, and tickets went on sale at the same time. Fans that were able to snag those last minute tickets were able to see Rodrigo perform songs from her album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love for the first time. The show included live debuts for her songs “my way”, “u+me=<3”, “maggots for brains”, “less” and the song that’s been all over the for you page recently, “expectations”.
In addition to the secret show with the live debuts of 5 you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love tracks, Olivia also started a bandcamp page, where she shared another version of one of the songs from said recent album. Rodrigo released the happy version of her song “purple”. If you’re wondering why there’s happy version of the song, it’s because you seem pretty sad for a girl was originally supposed to be an album full of love songs, but after Rodrigo went through her breakup from Louis Partridge, her and her producer, Dan Nigro, went back to revise some of the love songs in order to add more of an unsettled or sad vibe to them. Therefore, this version of “purple” seems to be what the song was before the edits were made. Fans at the show were actually airdropped the bandcamp link to the song, and Stereogum reports that purchases of this version of the song on bandcamp will go towards Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields fund.
