Sean “Diddy” Combs, the renowned hip-hop mogul, has decided to voluntarily drop his bail appeal, according to a court document filed on December 13. This move ensures that Combs will remain incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn until his criminal trial, which is slated to begin on May 5, 2025.
According to Billboard, in a document filed by his legal team, Combs confirmed he would no longer pursue an appeal of the denial of his bail request. The decision comes more than two weeks after a Manhattan federal judge ruled against his previous attempt to secure bail, citing “compelling evidence” that suggested Combs had an alleged propensity for violence and posed a serious risk of witness tampering.
It also follows Combs attempts to dismiss the sexual assault, sex trafficking and harassment lawsuit and alleged attempts to influence witnesses.
Combs had requested to be released on a $50 million bond, proposing house arrest with near-total restrictions, but prosecutors argued that he had been allegedly attempting to influence the case from jail. The judge also highlighted evidence that Combs had contacted a witness, violating prison rules.
The charges against the music mogul are severe. Combs is accused of allegedly running a criminal enterprise designed to fulfill his alleged need for sexual gratification, including accusations of orchestrating “freak off” parties where participants allegedly drugged victims and coerced them into sex.
Combs has denied all allegations and his trial will begin next year.
