Nu metal act Korn will continue their 2021 tour without guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer, who tested positive for COVID-19 three weeks after lead singer Jonathan Davis also tested positive. Shaffer missed out on the band’s Salt Late City performance on September 9 and will continue to miss shows until he recovers from the illness.
“Unfortunately, Munky has tested positive for COVID. He is doing OK, but he will not be playing some of our upcoming shows,” the group said in a social media statement. “The tour is going on as scheduled despite these circumstances, and we are anticipating a speedy recovery. We’ll see you tonight, Utah.”
Davis’ positive diagnosis caused the band to reschedule several tour dates they had alongside Staind, however Korn was back on the road by last month. Davis’ condition was far from ideal however, the singer stated that he was “physically weak and having mental battle,” following his diagnosis and the performer sat on throne upon the group’s return to the stage. The singer reportedly told fans that he felt weak during the show, but he still refused to cancel the performance. Fans also pointed out that Davis had an oxygen tank on-stage, however this occurred in past performances due to the singer’s asthma.
Korn teamed up with Suicidal Tendencies bassist Ra Diaz for this latest set of concert performances, which have continues without longtime bassist Fieldy. The group also released cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ “It’s A Sin” back in July.
