Singer-songwriter Moses Sumney has announced a new record label, production company and creative agency based out of Asheville, North Carolina called Tuntum. While details on the company are scarce as of press time, Sumney has also debuted a cover of T-Pain’s “Can’t Believe It,” which features Sam Gendel.
Sumney’s “Can’t Believe It” cover shows the singer hanging out in a camper on the outskirt of the woods and driving a vintage convertible, capturing the vibe of a quaint summer day. Sumney alters his voice with some light-autotune throughout the song, which hosts a mellow R&B vibe, accompanied by a slow rhythm and the singer’s sensual crooning.
“When I moved to California at 16, T-Pain’s ‘Can’t Believe It’ was one of the first songs I heard on the radio,” Sumney explained in a press release. “Sitting in a vast Wal-Mart parking lot, I wondered at how everything was bigger in America, and turned up the bass. I learned to associate T-Pain with newness, half because his music soundtracked a transitional point in my life, half because his sonic exploration was so fresh.”
Last year was massive for Sumney, who debuted græ last winter, which was supported by the singles “Virile,” “Polly” and “Me In 20 Years.” Following their releases on the first half of the LP, Sumney released several more singles such as “Cut Me” and “Bless Me,” which were on the album’s full release. Sumney also pursued several other projects, teaming up with Little Dragon for “The Other Lover” last December and scoring the dance piece “Unveiling” earlier this year.
