Kitten will be releasing their first album in seven years, My Energy, this spring. An exact release date for the album will be revealed in the coming weeks. Previously released singles from My Energy will include “Angelina,” “My House” “Daddy Don’t Take My Phone,” “American Football,” “Do U Still Love Me” and “What Year Are We In.”
Kitten’s frontwoman, Chloe Chaidez, is also a member of Charlie XCX’s girl band Nasty Cherry. She appeared in the Netflix show that had been about the band, I’m With The Band: Nasty Cherry.
mxdwn sat with Kitten last year, the band discussing how the beginning of the pandemic had been affecting them, and discussing their song “My House,” which had been written as the pandemic had first started and marked a societal shift.
“I think the music at points can seem uplifting even though the lyric has the sort of defeatist maybe attitude in it and it’s sort of a lack of hope,” the band’s Dave Stango said of the track.
While Kitten has not released a full-length album in seven years, the band has released a string of EPs, including 2019’s Goodbye Honeymoon Phase, 2018’s Pink Champagne, 2016’s Heaven or Somewhere in Between and 2013’s Like a Stranger. In 2014, Kitten released their self-titled debut album.
Nasty Cherry recently released a new EP titled The Movie, which had featured the singles “Her Body” and “Lucky.” The Movie had followed their July 2020 EP Season 2, which included the track “Better Run.” Nasty Cherry includes Chloe Chaidez, Debbie Knox-Hewson, Georgia Somary and Gabbriette Bechtel.
