Amanda Palmer has started making Cameo videos to raise money in support of the Biden/Harris campaign. All of the money from the videos will go straight to the campaign, she said in an Instagram post.
Palmer, who was the lead vocalist, pianist and lyricist of The Dresden Dolls, is charging $250 per video via Cameo, which is a video sharing website that allows celebrities to send personalized video messages to fans. Her name on Cameo is TheAmandaPalmer.
Palmer said she’s only going to be making the videos for a limited amount of time. Three hours after making the post, she said she was already almost sold out of videos, and that when she’s done, she will have raised $10,000 for the Biden/Harris campaign. Palmer said fans can request a video for any reason, from a birthday or Christmas present to a “get well soon” message.
In August, Palmer announced she will be going on short New Zealand tour. She moved to New Zealand shortly before the COVID-19 lockdown began and the country has given the go-ahead for her to start performing again, as the virus is essentially under control there. She played her last pre-lockdown show in Christchurch in March and played her first show since quarantine in New Zealand in July.
In May, she had announced her intention to reunite with Brian Viglione to record a new Dresden Dolls album and go on reunion tour in 2021, but had to scrap that plan because of the pandemic. The band’s last release was their 2008 album No, Virginia… The duo instead reunited to cover the Muppets’ “I’m Going to Go Back There Someday.”
Last month, Palmer teamed up with Rhiannon Giddens to cover Portishead’s “It’s Fire” from their 1994 album Dummy. She also released a cover of Frank Sinatra’s “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.”
In other election-related news, Demi Lovato recently partnered with the Lincolnn Project, an anti-Trump political committee created by Republicans, to release video for her latest single “Commander In Chief.” Weird Al Yankovic released a parody video of the Presidential debate featuring him acting as the moderator.
Ice Cube said he isn’t endorsing anyone for the upcoming presidential election following a comment from Trump administration senior official Katrina Pierson in which she thanked him “for his willingness to step up and work with Donald Trump” on The Platinum Plan, a plan that is set to help create 3 million jobs for Black Americans, make Juneteenth a national holiday and more.
Kanye West also recently released his first campaign ad, just 22 days before the election.
