According to Stereogum.com, on Saturday night, an all-star team of musicians gathered at the Broad Museum in Los Angeles to pay tribute to Yoko Ono, who is a very famous lady and an icon of avant-garde art and music. The 93-year-old Ono was not in attendance herself, but the event, billed as Yoko Only: A Night Celebrating the Music of Yoko Ono, featured a bunch of indie and alternative greats covering Ono’s songs. The former Cibo Matto member Yuka Honda curated the Yoko Ono tribute where she and her husband, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, also played in the house band.

That house band also featured the members of Yo La Tengo, who have performed with Ono many times over the years and who contributed to the 2022 Ono tribute compilation Ocean Child. According to Rolling Stone, Yo Le Tengo’s Ira Kaplan dedicated a cover of the 1973 single, “What Did I Do!” to the Beatles, saying, “It’s been long enough that we no longer bear a grudge for them trying to break up the Plastic Ono Band.” T The show was held in conjunction with the Broad’s current exhibition Yoko Ono: Music Of The Mind. Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna and Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker joined forces to cover “No, No, No,” while Sylvan Esso took on “Sisters O Sisters” and “Walking On Thin Ice.”

Also, Rufus Wainwright sang “I’m Going Away Smiling.” Tune-Yards’ Merrill Garbus opened up the show with “We Are All Water.” Deerhoof’s Satomi Matsuzaki performed “Tabetai.” Other performers included Finom, Maggie Perkins, Patrick Shiroishi, Theo Bleckmann, Darkside’s Dave Harrington, and Ono’s granddaughter Emi Helfrich. Many of the performers returned to the stage for the grand finale “Woman Power.
