During a humanitarian aid convoy in Ukraine earlier this year, Dropkick Murphys’ vocalist/founder Ken Casey took the time to meet up with Ukrainian punk band O’Hamsters in the studio to record vocals for a Ukrainian translation of Dropkick Murphys’ single, “Who’ll Stand With Us?“. The video for the new version of “Who’ll Stand With Us?” features clips from the Ukrainian recording session as well as uplifting images of Ukrainian soldiers on deployment.
While about the reimagined version of the band’s protest anthem, Dropkick Murphys said: “Hearing the words of this song in the language of a nation at war brings a deeper meaning to the question ‘Who’ll Stand With Us?’ As we honor America’s soldiers, we also honor soldiers on the front line in another country, Ukraine, as they keep fighting and keep LIVING. And a special shout out to the many American Veterans who are volunteering on the front lines WITH the Ukrainian forces. We thank everybody Who Stands With Us!”
In recent years, Dropkick Murphys have raised money for Ukrainian aid efforts through the sale of limited-edition t-shirts, and Casey traveled to Ukraine in May since he felt it was important to see things firsthand and to show moral support for the people of Ukraine. In addition, Casey is believed to be one of the only Americans of non-Ukrainian descent to release music that was recorded in Ukraine since the war began.
