Canadian-American singer Neil Young and his new band The Chrome Hearts released a new single, titled “Talkin’ to the Trees.” The relaxing single comes as the titular track off the upcoming debut album for The Chrome Hearts. Young posted the track to his YouTube channel.
The mellow track has a strong, reflective atmosphere from the seasoned Young on vocals. His lyrics take us through his thoughts during a seemingly average day. While “waiting around for the world to change,” he takes us through his routine, stopping to observe his surroundings, getting lost in thoughts and eventually doing just as the title suggests and starts “talking to the trees.” One interesting lyric mentions Young “thinking about Bob,” almost certainly a reference to friend and peer Bob Dylan. The instrumentals provide much to the longing yet mellow atmosphere, including a wonderful harmonica interspersed with the lyrics.
The Chrome Hearts were introduced to the world as a part of 2024’s Farm Aid concert as the backing band for Young. Young and the band have toured together since, but Talkin’ to the Trees will mark the first release featuring the group. The titular track marks the third single released off the album, following “Big Change” and “Let’s Roll Again.”
Recently, Young posted a message speaking out against president Donald Trump. This came after the president posted a rant threatening singer Bruce Springsteen for expressing his own criticism of the president and his administration. A longtime critic of Trump, Young has recently spoken on fears of being unable to enter the country for his tour, with Young’s wife Daryl Hannah also claiming the administration attempted to obstruct his path to American citizenship due to his outspoken beliefs.
