Devin Townsend barely announced his next upcoming studio album Puzzle a month ago, but the performer is already looking forward to another project set for 2022. Townsend explained that this upcoming project will be a double disk effort, which will be accompanied by two films. The performer has also announced a March release date for Puzzle.
“My next project I’m releasing is going to be weird and off-putting. It’s meandering and uncomfortable juxtaposed by another disk that’s comforting and droning,” Townsend explained on Twitter. “Sometimes I wish I could control what comes out, but it’s just about following where it leads.”
Each disk from the upcoming project will serve as a “soundtrack” for their respective film and Townsend is alreay planning a coffee table book to accompany the project. This record is also set to be abstract with some drone influences added in, which Townsend says encapsulates this chaotic year.
Townsend’s plans for the upcoming Puzzle appear to be equally ambitious, as he previously announced a graphic novel and film accompaniment. He has also been extremely busy this year, releasing three ambient guitar recordings, which were all around an hour long each. The performer more recently teamed up with the likes of Dave Ellefson and Jason Bieler for “Bring Out Your Dead.”
Townsend will be hosting a special Christmas live stream tomorrow, which was supported by his cover of “Silent Night.” This stream follows his numerous charity live streams this year, which were in support of North Shore University Hospital in New York State, the NHS in the UK and the Vancouver General Hospital.
