Dale Crover Masks Up for New “I Can’t Help You There” Video

Dale Crover of the Melvins has released a new music video for “I Can’t Help You There,” from his forthcoming debut album Rat-A-Tat-Tat!, which will be released on January 15, 2021. This video was directed by Crover and Toshi Kasai as Deaf Nephews.

“I Can’t Help You There” shows Crover wearing a facemask resembling a human face, split between trippy visual images of the group performing. This song is a slight departure from the Melvins more punk influenced work, taking a more vintage rock sound, with catchy electric guitar hooks channeling the blues and steady rhythms that have an alt rock influence.

“I enlisted Toshi Kasai and Alicia DiGiovanni to help direct, film and edit,” Crover explained in a press release. “I gave them the basic ideas I had and they ran with them. Inspiration came from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, The Cramps 1978 performance at Napa State Mental Hospital, and the creepy face mask of LA Dodger Kiké Hernández.”

Crover has also been busy this year with two separate Melvins groups, which includes the official band and Melvins 1983, which includes original drummer Mike Dillard. Although Crover plays drums for the Melvins typical lineup, he plays bass for Melvins 1983. The Melvins 1983 iteration released the Mullet EP earlier this year and will be debuting their first studio album Working With God next February.

The regular edition of the Melvins have also been busy this year, as they teamed up with Mudhoney for the collaborative EP White Lazy Boy. The group also shared cover of “White Punks on Dope” by The Tubes and announced a new 12″ release collecting B-sides from their Hostile Ambient Takeover series.
