The Weeknd has debuted a brand new song. The performance of his new song “Tokyo” was performed at Japan’s Belluna Dome, which is close to the city of Tokyo. The song seems to be a collaboration with the Japanese singer Yoko Takahashi, who performed the song alongside the Weeknd. “Tokyo” samples her song from the 1995 anime Neon Genesis Evangelion titled “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis”. Yoko Takahashi also performed that iconic theme song, while the Weeknd jammed.

He previously debuted the new song “Rio” with Anitta back in April of this year, while performing in Rio De Janeiro. Therefore, “Tokyo” isn’t the first song to be debuted on the Weeknd’s current tour. The new Weeknd song comes after Abel Tesfaye had been going back and forth about whether or not he would continue to use his stage name, but according to Stereogum, it seems like he will be releasing this song under the Weeknd name. 

With this song, and more tour dates on the way, The Weeknd shows no signs of stopping. He tells GQ Hong Kong, “At one point I thought, ‘What if I just stopped?’ But then I realized what a waste all of that inspiration would be,” he said. “I can’t let that happen. I had a glimpse of what retirement looks like, and it isn’t for me. It’s a real privilege to do what I do. There’s nothing else like this job. The gratitude I’ve felt over the last year has been overwhelming. I’m going to keep doing this for as long as I possibly can. The Weeknd isn’t going anywhere.”
