Pelican Releases New Version of “Cascading Crescent” With Geoff Rickly And Announces New EP Ascending For January 2026 Release

Chicago rock band Pelican is getting ready to release new four-song EP called Ascending on January 23, 2026. It will be available online and as a vinyl record through Run For Cover. This EP builds on their earlier release this year, “Flickering Resonance,” showcasing the band’s original lineup back together: guitarists Laurent Schroeder-Lebec and Trevor Shelley de Brauw with brothers Bryan and Larry Herweg. The group aims to engage both old fans and those discovering them for the first time with this fresh energy.

The main track of the EP is Ascending, a previously unreleased song from the Flickering Resonance sessions. This anthem captures the essence of Pelican’s signature sound and sets up an in-depth musical exploration throughout the EP. It also features special version of their popular single, “Cascading Crescent,” with vocals by Geoff Rickly, famous for his roles in bands like Thursday, United Nations, and No Devotion. The release comes along with an exciting video showing Pelican’s only live performance with Rickly—a must-see event for fans who want to experience this unique collaboration.

The EP includes two songs, “Adrift” and “Tending the Embers,” recorded and released independently in 2024. These songs, along with the new ones introduced on this record, represent Pelican’s artistic development and their willingness to explore fresh ideas. Pelican, working with Will Killingsworth from Dead Air Studios, has made a special guitar pedal called Resonance. It’s inspired by their latest music and can create sounds ranging from gentle echoes to rich soundscapes. You can get this pedal when you pre-order the EP, which also includes limited edition colored vinyl records and new custom merchandise designs.
