Today, Mac DeMarco has released “Holy,” which is the second single/video from his forthcoming album, Guitar, that will be out on August 22 through Mac’s Record Label. The artists latest ditty is a lilting and laidback reflection on spirituality. In the song’s opening lines, DeMarco sings: “Miracle, reveal yourself to me // Miracle, your help could set me free” leading into the conclusion: “Curse, carried on forever in me // Curse, from which I may never be free // Curse from down below // Holy.”
As with the video for “Home,” the singer filmed the “Holy” video himself. DeMarco comments: “I waded around in the ocean fully clothed for a couple hours and completely filled my boots with seawater. There were some other shots on some rocks I kept trying too, but in the end the clip of me falling in the garden and eating the apple was best. Thank you for listening.”
Guitar was written and recorded in its entirety in November 2024 at Mac’s home in Los Angeles. Except for the mastering, which was handled by David Ives, Mac created and handled all aspects of this record on his own, including mixing the album in Canada, and shooting the artwork on tripods.
