Tragedy struck in 2022 when Taylor Hawkins, drummer and longtime member of the legendary Foo Fighters, was found dead in his hotel room right before the band was supposed to perform live on stage in Colombia. Sometimes the death of an influential bandmate can lead to the “death” of the band itself, but the Foo Fighters are determined to let fans know this will not be the case.

On New Year’s Eve, the Foo Fighters made an emotional post on Instagram that stated “Wirthout Taylor, we never would have become the band we were- and without Taylor, we know that we’re going to be a different band going forward. We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you. And we know that when we see you again – and we will soon – he’ll be there in spirit with all of us every night” (Spin).

The band obviously canceled the rest of their tour after the tragedy, though have been paying tribute to Hawkins with two tribute concerts that would have made Hawkins proud. The tribute performances have had many artists participate that have had their lives touched by Hawkins, including Queen, Alanis Morisette, and more.

The Foo Fighters won’t be the same without Hawkins, but it is exciting and encouraging to see the band continuing on in his memory doing what they love.
