This weekend Brandi Carlile was joined by three Soundgarden members during her performance at The Gorge in George, WA. The singer was supported by guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron. Together they covered the legendary “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching with My Good Eye Closed.” Watch the two live covers below.
This is not the first time Carlile covered the iconic grunge band. For her A Rooster Says Record Store Day Release in 2020, the singer-songwriter teamed up with Soundgarden. The single featured both songs and is now available on streaming platforms. Before this collaboration, the artist and the band played together at the 2019 Chris Cornell tribute concert, where Carlile first performed “Black Hole Sun.”
Thayil previously complimented Carlile’s covers of the songs, calling her performance “moving and beautiful.”

Carlile is currently on tour until September 26th. She will also play at Harvest Moon in late October and Stagecoach in 2022. The artist also shared that she will be once again covering Joni Mitchell’s iconic album Blue live and in its entirety. She is set to perform in November at Carnegie Hall, which marks the second time she will be covering the album.
Carlile announced her new album, These Silent Days, which is set to be released on October 1 via Low Country Sound/Elektra Records. She already shared a taste of her new album in the form of her new song, “Right on Time.”
Soundgarden recently made the news after they announced they have come to a temporary agreement with Cornell’s widow Vicky Cornell after they claimed they had no access to the social media accounts of the band. Vicky Cornell previously managed the accounts. This is not the only thing that created tension between the band and Cornell’s widow. In 2019, she filed lawsuit against the remaining members of the band, alleging the band is withholding royalties from her and asking to be made the rightful owner of Cornell’s unreleased recordings.
