New York-based band Anamanaguchi have returned with an enthralling new song entitled “Sucker Punch.” The track follows their previous single “Yeah I Guess” which arrived in early September. “Sucker Punch” was co-produced by Dave Fridmann who has worked with the likes of MGMT and The Flaming Lips. The song is accompanied by a music video which was directed by Daniel Egnal and Gabriel Lee of Verebonum with added VFX by Gobluna.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, frontman Peter Berkman offered, “On ‘Sucker Punch’ we went for something more free-form than algorithm-optimized–we wanted something that could feel like the climax of a surreal film rather than a pop song. And the lyrics are kinda freaky, painting the picture of this sort of commiserable, pathetic character. An apex weirdo, pretending to be tough but kinda just projecting it, and who forgot about his roommate. We wanted it to feel fully mundane and fully surreal.”
The band is currently on tour in support of their recent album Anyway which was released in August of 2025. They are set to perform in Dallas, Austin, Raleigh, Washington D.C., Norfolk, Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Toronto and Detroit before closing out the trek with a show at Radius in Chicago, Illinois on November 21.
