French metal band Gojira has released a new song “The Chant,” ahead of their upcoming album Fortitude. “The Chant” is the fifth and final single released ahead of the upcoming album.
Fortitude will be released on April 30, 2021 with Roadrunner Records. A music video for “The Chant” will be released on YouTube on that same date. The band posted a teaser for the music video on their YouTube channel.
“The Chant,” is a rousing tune with a driving, heavy-handed guitar. Over the buzzing lull of the guitar, Joe Duplantier sings “You can run me high then climb up the sky/Wake up to the sound of doom.” When he’s not singing the chorus, Duplantier’s vocal harmony creates a lush wall of sound, halting only to let a solo from guitarist Christian Andreu ring.
Alongside Duplantier’s lead vocals on “The Chant,” is his brother, Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (rhythm guitar), and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass). “Let this chant ring in your bones and lift you up,” said Joe Duplantier, on “The Chant.”
Gojira released several other songs ahead of “The Chant,” in preparation for their album, including “Into the Storm,” “Born for One Thing,” “Another World,” and “Amazonia,” with which they fundraised for the indigenous nongovernmental organization, The Articulation for Indigineous Peoples of Brazil (APIB).
In a press release, the band reported already having raised $250,000 for APIB. Gojira will continue to fundraise for the NGO, hosting a raffle and an auction on April 29.
Fortitude is the band’s seventh studio album and first release since their 2016 album, Magma. Magma was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Rock Album category in 2017. Past albums include L’Enfant Sauvage (2012), The Way of All Flesh (2008), From Mars to Sirius (2005), The Link (2003) and Terra Incognita (2001). To preorder Fortitude, visit here.
