Melvins 1983 Pay Tribute to Harry Nilsson’s Subversive Songwriting with New Song “1 Fuck You”

The rock band Melvins have released another single off their forthcoming release Working With God, set to be out February 26 via Ipecac Recordings. The new song, “1 Fuck You,” is a tribute to Harry Nilsson’s “You’re Breaking’ My Heart” off his 1972 album Son of Schmilsson.

Working With God will feature the 1983 lineup of Melvins with Buzz Osborne on vocals and guitar, Dale Crover who has moved to bass and original drummer Mike Dillard. The band has already shared few tracks off the 13-song album including, “I Fuck Around” (a re-imagined cover of The Beach Boys’ “I Get Around”), “Bouncing Rick,” “Caddy Daddy,” “Brian, The Horse-Faced Goon,” and “The Great Good Place.”

On “1 Fuck You,” Osborne says, “Why haven’t we recorded this song before now? It says it all. Nilsson was a genius!!”

This event will be broadcast on Veeps, with tickets starting at $5 and merchandise is available for purchase as well. On the livestream special, Osborne says, “Round two of Melvins TV! Just in time for Valentine’s Day! Five different songs plus band interviews and other cool stuff. All this fine entertainment for only $5.” Melvins’ previous holiday special occurred on New Year’s Eve, called “New Year’s Evil” and followed a similar structure of pre-recorded content and live performances.
