According to NME.com, Phoebe Bridgers covered Nirvana’s classic track, “Lithium” on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. The singer performed a haunting acoustic rendition of the song, from the grunge band’s 1991 album. Nevermind, on the Wednesday, August 19, edition of the long-running music show. The artist also treated fans to performances of “Lost Boys”, which is the lead single from her new album, Lost Weekend, as well as the track “Bobby”.
The session appears to have been recorded before Bridgers became ill from appendicitis, which caused her to cancel a series of intimate UK gigs this week. “I got appendicitis for my birthday,” she wrote on Instagram stories, captioning a photo of herself in a hospital bed. “Everything in the UK this week will have to move but I’ll make it up to you!!!!” As for the album, Lost Weekend was released on August 14 and is the third solo studio album from the Bridgers, who also performs as part of the supergroup Boygenius. Among the album’s biggest supporters was Taylor Swift, who called the release an “absolute triumph in every way”.
