Ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and San Diego based vocalist/bassist Justin Pearson have announced a new industrial rock project called Satanic Planet, according to The PRP. The project will also feature Luke Henshaw of Planet B.
Lombardo has bounced around many bands in his four decades as a drummer, and currently works with Suicidal Tendencies, Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross, and the Misfits. While Lombardo has followed his career with Slayer with extreme success and mostly performs with Mr. Bungle, Lombardo got together with a number of metal legends, including fellow Slayer alumni Gary Holt to perform some Slayer classics from their iconic Reign In Blood at a metal allegiance concert held in January earlier this year.
Like Lombardo, Pearson has bounced around with a number of bands, but is most known for his work with the Locust. Lombardo and Pearson first formed Dead Cross back in late 2015 along with Mike Crain of Retox, with an original vision for, “straightforward brutal punk,” as described by Lombardo. They released their debut self titled album Dead Cross in August of 2017, but have yet to release a second studio album. Pearson most recently collaborated with Nick Zinner of indie rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs last year to release an EP titled Self-Titled; Pearson and Zinner originally worked together as members of punk supergroup Head Wound City.
Mr. Bungle recently announced plans to re-record their 1986 demo The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny with Lombardo and bandmate Scott Ian. Pearson was set to tour with the Locust throughout the spring of this year, but the tour was cancelled due to cancellations of mass gathering due to the coronavirus pandemic.
