Legendary DJ and producer Marshmello has teamed up with singer-songwriter Cameron Whitcomb for the brand new song “Hollow.” This marks the very first collaboration between the two musicians.
“Hollow” exists somewhere between a melancholic, almost nostalgic tune and a catchy, bouncy track to dance to. With clear country influence, the song seems to follow a rather strained relationship, with Whitcomb singing verses like “Saying jokes that only I get/Just to cut the tension in this room” and “If the morning’s come too soon/Take my hand let’s dance around the truth.” However, the song takes on a mindset of living in the moment, putting whatever that tension is to the side and enjoying yourself even if it’s just for the night, illustrated by the line, “When the light goes hollow and burns away tomorrow/At least I’ll always have tonight with you.”
Marshmello has had an eventful year so far. In addition to releasing this track, he dropped a collaboration with country singer-songwriter Kelsea Ballerini called “Another Drink” last month, which reached a new peak on the Hot 100 this week. Before that, he released “Phoenix” with Portugal. The Man.
