Anne Hathaway steps into full pop star mode with the release of “My Mouth Is Lonely For You,” a striking new track from the upcoming film Mother Mary. The song arrives as part of the official soundtrack for the highly anticipated project, offering a glimpse into the film’s bold musical identity. With its release, Hathaway continues to blur the line between actor and performer in a role built around sound and spectacle.
The track was written by FKA twigs, who also stars in Mother Mary, and features additional contributions from producers and songwriters including Koreless, Xquisite Korpse, Tobias Jesso Jr. and Jeff Bhasker. Hathaway performs the track in character as the film’s titular music icon, adding narrative depth to the release.
The song is part of Mother Mary: Greatest Hits, the official soundtrack from director David Lowery’s upcoming film. The project also includes original songs written and produced by Jack Antonoff and Charli xcx, expanding the film’s sonic palette. A previously released track, “Burial,” also performed by Hathaway, set the tone for the soundtrack’s mix of introspection and theatricality.
Mother Mary follows a fictional pop star confronting her past as she reconnects with her former collaborator, played by Michaela Coel. The film also features Hunter Schafer and Kaia Gerber, rounding out a cast that reflects the film’s blend of music, fashion and drama.
The Mother Mary: Greatest Hits soundtrack will be released on April 17th through A24 Music, coinciding with the film’s limited theatrical debut before expanding nationwide on April 24th.
