White Lies just announced their new album Night Light, coming out November 7, and shared a brand new single called “In The Middle.” It’s the final track on the album and also one of the most exciting. With a steady beat and a big instrumental finish, it certainly did not disappoint any fans.
The band says the lyrics had been sitting in old notebooks for years, waiting for the right song to bring them to life. “In The Middle” is about change, but not so much moving on, but shifting into a new headspace when you need it. They also made it clear that the dreamy solo at the end is a saxophone, not a flute.
Night Light marks a fresh chapter for the trio, Harry McVeigh, Charles Cave and Jack Lawrence-Brown. This time, they flipped their process. Instead of building songs in the studio piece by piece, they rehearsed them live first, finding the heart of each track together in a room before recording. They kept things simple and focused on the connection between them.
The result is their most open and confident album yet. Songs like “Nothing On Me” and “Juice” show off their range, blending big sounds with real feeling. After nearly two decades together and sold out tours across the world, White Lies sound more sure of themselves than ever. As McVeigh puts it, “We finally know what we’re doing.”
