Billie Eilish has officially become the third artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify, following Taylor Swift and The Weekend. At 22 years old, she is now the youngest artist to ever reach such a milestone.
According to NME, eight of Eilish’s hauntingly beautiful tracks are a part of Spotify’s Billions club— “lovely (featuring Khalid)” with 2.8 billion, “bad guy” with 2.5 billion, “when the party’s over” with 1.8 billion, “everything i wanted” with 1.6 billion, “ocean eyes” with 1.4 billion, “Happier Than Ever” 1.3 billion, “idon’twannabeyouanymore” with 1.09 billion, and “bury a friend” with 1.01 billion.
This milestone comes after Eilish’s third studio album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, which was released back in May to great success. Fans and critics alike have been praising the record endlessly online, with NME writing that the album “remains distinctly unique, a portrait of a singular talent entering young adulthood, exploring her queerness and experiencing the emotional thrill and (sometimes) catastrophe of chasing passion or falling in love. In trying to write an album for herself, she’s made one that will resonate harder than anything she’s done before.”
Eilish also recently released two self-directed music videos for two of the tracks on the album. The video for “LUNCH” has more of retro vibe with it’s playful, bright shots of Eilish dancing and singing to the camera. Meanwhile, she shared a darker, dreamier video for “CHIHIRO,” where she finds herself running through dark hallways in the corners of her mind.
Elish’s recent success with HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, as well as last summer’s vulnerable “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie, speaks to her deservedness of this recent milestone.
