‘Tis the season for holiday jams, and synth-pop band Future Islands has embraced that mentality by covering Wham!’s “Last Christmas.” The cover can be heard in the video below.
Future Islands does the song justice by retaining the song’s upbeat pop feel and remains reminiscent of George Michael’s voice, though singer Samuel Herring’s sultry and deeper voice gives the song enough of a new feel. The cover also has an added addition of icy synth that gives the song something special.
Future Islands has been active throughout this year, releasing a new single and going on tour in November throughout Europe and the UK.
Herring is busy outside of Future Islands as well, acting in Apple TV+’s drama series The Changeling which was his debut into the world of TV entertainment.
