20th Anniversary Of Joe Strummer’s Passing To Be Honored By Busking In Front Of New York City Stummer Mural

Consequence Sound brings us news of multiple musicians planning to come together in tribute to Joe Strummer of the legendary rock band Clash. The tribute performances are to acknowledge the 20th anniversary of Stummer’s passing after he died from an undiagnosed congenital heart defect on December 22nd, 2002 at age 50.

The holiday benefit “Gates of the West” is scheduled for today, December 22nd from 6-8:00 PM at the memorial mural painted of Strummer on the side of the bar Niagara on Avenue A in New York City. The performances will move inside of the bar in case of inclement weather. There will even be an after party at 8:00 PM at the bar 96 Tears next door. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Music & Memory organization.

Niagara’s co-owner and frontman of the band D Generation Jesse Malin will be performing in addition to Gogol Bordello’s singer Eugene Hutz, The So So Glows, and more.
