David Bowie’s music continues to live on through the art of covers. Just earlier this month, Spoon covered his iconic “I Can’t Give Everything Away,” according to mxdwn. Now Two Minutes To Late Night brings us a metal doom twist to Bowie’s grunge, dance bop “Station to Station.”
The band virtually link up to present a rock-out special of “Station to Station” through a striking symphony of electric chords and bad-ass flare. The original opens to sounds resembling warped jet turbine winds before holding a steady chord that carries into a drum solo. The cover replaces the winds with rapid muffled electric strums then carries into a montage of electrifying guitar solos and commanding vocals.
Compared to the cover, David Bowie’s “Station to Station” takes advantage of hushed, quiet verses at times, with feel-good upbeat drums. The vocals command a presence in both the original and the cover which holds well next to the intensity of menacing keys.
Overall Bowie’s version goes through ups and downs of emotions and tones, allowing the track to breathe in some parts and run full speed in others. Two Minute To Late’s runs full speed ahead the entire time. It’s food for the soul to metal doom enthusiasts and perhaps an intriguing twist to long standing Bowie fans.
