According to Brooklyn Vegan, Alabama music festival Furnace Fest will require attendees to have proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or provide a negative COVID-19 test. The requirements follow the current status of the COVID-19 global pandemic, with the delta variant causing increasing rates of infection among states in the U.S.
Attendees must be able to provide evidence of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by bringing a physical copy of their vaccination card, a photocopy of the card or a digital picture of the physical copy. Meanwhile, unvaccinated individuals must show a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of attending the festival.
The festival will take place on September 24 through 26 at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, AL. Headlining acts include rock band Underoath, alternative rock band Taking Back Sunday and metalcore band Killswitch Engage. The lineup also features other American bands like Copeland, Defeater and Mayday Parade, among others.
The 2021 edition of the festival will serve as the twentieth anniversary of Furnace Fest after being postponed twice because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival will be implementing safety measures to prevent COVID-19 transmission, such as making masks required for anyone who attends indoor events (like after parties), having hand sanitizer stations placed throughout the festival and having staff routinely sanitize “often touched surfaces.”
“The two-fold aim of these measures is to keep everyone safe and our friends in business,” reads a statement from the festival’s website. “We have an opportunity to showcase the neighborliness, thoughtfulness, and community for which Birmingham is famous.”
