Sepultura are back with another SepulQuara live stream, this time tacking “Hatred Inside” with frontwoman and bassist Fernanda Lira of Crypta, and vocalists Angelica Burns of Hatefulmurder and Mayara Puertas of Torture Squad. This song is off of the group’s 1997 studio album Against.
This take on the groove metal track sees Lira, Burns and Puertas taking on vocal duties, screaming and growling with plenty of energy and aggression. The instrumental is equally heavy, with quick and steady drum beats on top of aggressive guitar and bass chords.
This follows previously virtual jam sessions with Devin Townsend, who performed “Mask” from their 2011 studio album Kairos last month and another performance of that project’s title track alongside Anthrax’s Scott Ian in June. Townsend also hosted a Q&A alongside the band, where they discussed touring and the recording process behind their latest album.
The group’s latest record, Quadra, was released back in February of this year. This album blended multiple genres into one album, that channeled a thrash metal aggression, with melodic influences and some bouts of experimentation.
“While Sepultura’s previous records contained blues, thrashing metal and melodic music, Quadra offers listeners all three musical genres but in a creative way to create a different style of metal music,” mxdwn reviewer Cait Stoddard explained. “Andreas Kisser, Derrick Green, Eloy Casagrande and Paulo Jr. do a great job of staying attune with each other because the instrumentation on each track is filled with electrifying music and there are multiple levels of aggression which can surprise some listeners.”
