The Stooges’ Final Show with Original Lineup to be Released as Live at Goose Lake: August 8th 1970

The Stooges set the template for punk in the late 1960s, garnering attention for their frontman Iggy Pop’s wild stage antics and their raw, primitive and at the time “obscene” style of rock and roll. While few were ever able to experience the band’s formative years in person, fans can now relive a part of the ride with Live At Goose Lake: August 8, 1970, a recording of the band’s final live performance, with their original lineup. One of the songs from the upcoming project titled “T.V. Eye” has also been released, showcasing the band’s raw energy at the peak of their career.

The record will be released by Third Man Records on August 7, a day prior to the 50th anniversary of this live performance. This recording was made only a day before the release of their influential 1970 LP Fun House, and was restored by Vance Powell, who has worked with The White Stripes and Chris Stapleton and mastered by Bill Skibbe at Third Man Mastering.

According to a press release, this monumental recording is also the only known soundboard recording of the band’s original lineup, which consisted of lead vocalist Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton and bassist Dave Alexander. This special release will have two separate limited-edition vinyl variants: the Rough Trade version will be on a purple-colored vinyl with a standard LP jacket, while the indie exclusive version will be on a cream-colored vinyl with a screen-printed LP jacket.

The Stooges released a special 50th anniversary edition of their self-titled debut last fall. Iggy Pop released deluxe reissues of The Idiot and Lust For Life last month and cover of “Family Affair” by Sly Stone alongside funk legend Bootsy Collins. The performer’s most recent album Free came out in 2019.
