Rock band Coheed and Cambria have debuted a new post-apocalyptic music video for the song “Toys,” titled “An Unheavenly Christmas Carol”, which was developed by the band’s frontman Claudio Sanchez and directed by Alek Wasilewsk. This track was originally featured on the band’s recent studio album release, The Unheavenly Creatures, which was released earlier this year via Roadrunner Records.
“An Unheavenly Christmas Carol,” shows a young child writing letters to Santa, asking the holiday figure to give him his wish of letting him be president of the United States. The child gets more aggressive and keeps sending Santa the same letter throughout the years, until the child is shown to be a grown up Donald Trump. Santa then becomes more and more battle hardened by Trump, begins drinking eggnog, and eventually storms the White House. The video ends with Santa spanking Trump in the Oval Office for his misdeeds.
The video originally debuted on the Funny or Die YouTube channel, which stated: “We’re in the middle of 45’s impeachment… that’s a lot to try and cope with during the holiday season, but Coheed and Cambria’s here to meld holiday bliss with democratic shit-shows.” Sanchez further stated: “I’ve wanted to ‘toy’ with a Santa story for some time. I guess, no better time than the present. And for Jolly Ole’ to decide if he’s Naughty or Nice? The President.”
Coheed and Cambria announced their inaugural concert cruise S.S. Neverender, which will host Taking Back Sunday, The Dear Hunter and Torche as performers. The band recently co-headlined tour with Mastodon and Every Time I Die earlier this year.
