Rapper Macklemore has released a new holiday song titled “It’s Christmas Time,” featuring British soul singer Dan Caplen, which is accompanied by a music video directed by Jason Koenig . The song is  co-produced by Tyler Dopps and Josh “Budo” Karp, and was performed on the talk show Ellen on December 18.

“It’s Christmas Time,” is a blend of Macklemore’s typical hip hop/pop style blending in rapping verses with catchy choruses delivered by Caplen, and also hosts a blend of pop production featuring a steady beat and bells throughout the song. The video is simplistic, depicting a family decorating a Christmas tree, ice skating and engaging in fun holiday activities with each other.

The rapper explained that his desire to release the song was made by Mariah Carey’s cover of the classic holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas.” “Every year around Christmas time I think to myself ‘Just do it Ben. Make the song. You can be the new Mariah Carey’. Well, this year I finally am,” the rapper explained in a press release.

Macklemore released a music video for the song “I Don’t Belong In This Club,” earlier this year, which featured the rapper’s signature pop flair, with the help of the pop group Why Don’t We. The song explores Maclemore’s tension with fame, as he tries to blend into a club where he clearly doesn’t belong, as the DJ and people announce his presence to the rest of the club goers. This song served as Why Don’t We’s third song and video of 2019.
