A few days ago rap-metal group Body Count was performing at the legendary Tuska Open Air festival in Finland, and they were joined by former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo for a cover of the Slayer Classic “Postmortem” as reported by The PRP. Body Count recorded cover medley of “Postmortem” and “Raining Blood” on their last record Bloodlust, and also shot a fascinating music video for the song. This is not the first time in recent memory that legendary figure in metal came on stage to perform with the Ice-T fronted group as Hatebreed singer Jamey Jasta joined the band for a version of the controversial song “Cop Killer” last month. Both songs come from the Slayer album Reign in Blood, generally regarded as one of the greatest records in heavy metal history and a showcase for Lombardo’s innovative thrash metal drumming techniques.
Lombardo had an acrimonious split with Slayer earlier this decade, vowing to never return to the group. He has continued to exchange war of words with his former bandmates in the press ever since leaving the group back in 2013, being replaced by his original replacement Paul Bostaph. Slayer is currently in the midst of their final world tour before retiring.
Since leaving Slayer, Lombardo has kept busy, filling in as the drummer for the Misfits reunion, forming new supergroup with Mike Patton in the form of the awesome Dead Cross, who have two releases out so far, and taking over as the drummer for Suicidal Tendencies.
