Body Count has revealed the official music video for their version of the song “Raining Blood.” The metal band that is fronted by hip-hop legend, actor and director Ice-T released their cover of the Slayer classic “Raining Blood,” with a video that is directed directed by Ice-T and Treach. Not only is the song a cover of a Slayer classic but it also features the end to another hit from the band, “Postmortem.”
“Raining Blood” is featured on the band’s latest album, Bloodlust, which was released at the end of March. The album is the follow-up to their 2014’s record, Manslaughter which includes contributions from artists like Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy Max Cavalera and Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe.
According to Ice-T during the intro to the music video, he conveys his love for Slayer stating that it’s one of his favorite groups and “will always be.” The band Slayer first released the tracks in 1986 for their third studio album, Reign in Blood. For the new cover and video which holds nothing back, showcases the band ripping the track in the studio. During the clip, fans will notice a red tint to the video which can be seen during close-ups of the band members. An ode to the title, maybe.
The bassist for Body Count, Vincent Price recently spoke about how he approached recording “Raining Blood” in the studio. Price said: “I got this phone call from Ice-T at the same time he told me about trying to find people to be on this record. He goes, ‘Vince, I want to cover ‘Raining Blood’. I’m thinking, ‘Wait a minute, ‘Raining Blood’ starts with the end of ‘Postmortem’. I was, like, ‘You know what? Let’s put a twist on it — start our ‘Raining Blood’ and then end with ‘Postmortem’, which I do vocals on.”
The decision to release a new Body Count album, according to Ice T was because: “Music happens in climates. Groups like RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and KORN were born when the world was in turmoil, then music went into this delusional period where hip-hop became about nothing more than poppin’ bottles. Now we have impending doom again, racism is at an all-time high and it’s our season again. This is the optimal time for a BODY COUNT record.”
The metal band came together in 1990 in Los Angeles and was formed by Ice-T with the help of the lead guitarist Ernie C out of their interest in heavy metal music.
