Martin Doherty of Chvrches Says New Album and Tour Coming in 2018

Days into the new year, the Scottish band Chvrches, is making due on their promise of a new album. Martin Doherty, one of the three members of the group posted on his social media account expressing that with the new year comes new album and new shows.

Doherty posted on Twitter the other day revealing the news to over 29 million followers.

Late last year, frontwoman Lauren Mayberry revealed that their new album will be poppier than ever. Unlike their first two albums which were self-produced, their third is getting produced by Greg Kurstin, who has worked alongside Adele and Pink. “He’s done such big pop records, but they’ve always got a bit of saltiness in them,” Mayberry said of Kurstin’s past work. “He pushed what we were doing to be bigger in some ways, but he also pushed us to be weirder. He’d be like, ‘If the vocal melodies are as sweet and as precise as this, why don’t we make these other sounds so f—ed up and gnarly and strange?’ I loved that.”

The band performed a special Christmas show mid-December where they played distinct covers of both Joni Mitchell’s “River” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time.” The performance was Chvrches first live show since the previous December. They have been busy though working on their third album and follow up to their second album Every Open Eye.

Chvrches’s third album has yet to have a release date or an official name, but hopefully, fans don’t have to wait too long to hear the sweet sound of new music from their favorite synth-pop group from Glasgow.
