John Legend, Pharrell Williams, and Clipse on the same project? Yeah, this is definitely one for the music lovers. Legend has officially released his 12th studio album, Muse, and he’s celebrating the drop with a music video for “Bodies On The Floor,” featuring music duo Clipse. Released October 23 via Republic Records, the album sees Legend teaming up with longtime friend Pharrell Williams, who produced and co-wrote the entire project.
Well, if you were expecting another straightforward John Legend love album, Muse might have a few surprises for you. Think dramatic strings, big horns, and cinematic soundscapes layered over contemporary beats. Legend has described the overall vision as having a “Black James Bond” feel, which honestly sounds like a pretty exciting direction for the singer. The album also marks the first full-length collaboration between Legend and Pharrell, who have been friends for more than 20 years. That collaboration reportedly inspired Pharrell to build an entire album around Legend’s voice. Now, we’re getting to hear what happens when two of music’s most established creative forces come together for a full project.

With Pharrell guiding the production, the album brings together influences that might not typically share the same space. Beyond the new album, Legend has plenty happening outside the recording studio. He’s preparing for Imitation of Life, his first original stage score, which begins previews at The Shed in New York on November 21 before its official opening on December 3. The musical is based on Fannie Hurst’s novel and explores race, identity, and motherhood through the stories of two families.
It’s another example of Legend continuing to expand his creative work beyond music, following his success as a producer and his involvement in film, television, and theater. Muse is out now via Republic Records, and the official video for “Bodies On The Floor” featuring Clipse is available to watch now.
