Grammy Award winner Lorde has officially released her newest single today “Perfect Places”, and is one of the track off the upcoming sophomore album Melodrama, which is scheduled to be released later on this month. The new track sets the stage for a euphoric, care free summer that grabs one by the heartstrings and plucks away.
According to Pitchfork, the young singer explained what attributed to the closing song off the upcoming album, nothing that “All of our heroes fading” is about David Bowie and Prince. “I felt the loss of Prince and DB hard last year. A massive light went out,” explains Lorde. “It [the track] started coming together late summer of 2016 in New York” when it was hot outside and “the news was just horrific every day.” The combination inspired the line “I hate the headlines and the weather,” which she calls “the most Melodrama line on the whole album.”
A couple months later, Lorde says she penned the line “Watch the wasters blow the speakers.” Making that exact situation occur a month later when she and a friend DJ’d a party: “We had this crazy room going then blew the speakers spectacularly and ghosted out of there. So yeah. Kind of about me. I’m a mess.” Lorde has also shared the songs “Green Light” and “Liability” off the album and will headline marquee festivals across the globe this year including anticipated performances at Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Life Is Beautiful, plus many more.
Lorde released her first album Pure Heroine at age 16 back in 2013, winning her 2 Grammy Awards and hitting triple platinum, so it is safe to assume that this upcoming work is going to match those numbers and continue to keep her on top of hundreds of music charts.
