WATCH: Charli XCX Releases New Video For I Want Candy Cover

Charli XCX is on a roll, and there doesn’t seem to be any stop to it thus far. Fresh off the success of her collaboration with Iggy Azalea on the recently-released single, “Fancy,” the young British singer has surprised everyone within earshot with her newly released video performance of the 60s classic “I Want Candy.”

While she is more widely known for a darker, electro-pop kind of style, Charli XCX clearly isn’t afraid to show off her rock and roll side, and the result is phenomenal. “I Want Candy” was originally recorded by The Strangeloves back in 1965 and has been covered multiple times since, most recently by Widespread Panic. Although the cover still retains the infamous “Bo Diddley Beat,” Charli XCX’s rendition gives a fresh take on the classic that The Strangeloves themselves would have surely approved. The video shows off all we’ve come to expect from the singer since her initial debut in 2008, and we can’t wait to see what’s next from her. It’s quite possible we may see this and other classic covers from Charli XCX on an up coming album, but for now, you can watch the video here.
