Synthwave band Gunship have teamed up with the unlikely duo of film composer and producer Tyler Bates and drummer Dave Lombardo of Slayer fame on their latest track. The new single, titled “Revolution.exe,” released on Bates’ record label Grave And Echo Recordings, as Blabbermouth reports. An official lyric video for the collaborative track can be found on Gunship’s YouTube channel.
The visualizer comes in a striking, jittery retro-PC style in line with the retro throwback feeling of Gunship and synthwave as a whole. The instrumentals, meanwhile, blend those synth sounds with a heavy focus on metal to create a unique and hard sound. The video’s striking visuals match the lyrics, with the song speaking of war and revolution and the video presenting abstract, fantastical imagery including an homage to the famous Francisco Goya painting posthumously titled “Saturn Devouring His Son.”
“My history with Gunship began a few years ago when we wrote ‘Berserker’ for the Dark Nights Death Metal album,” Tyler Bates said about the creation of the song. “‘Revolution.exe’ picks up where we left off. Dave Lombardo’s drumming is pure fire. This song is a banger. I hope y’all love it!” The song serves to launch Bates’ new record label Grave And Echo Recordings into the spotlight.
