Brooklyn-based producer, composer, and musician Oneohtrix Point Never is kicking off the Long Play Festival. He will be performing for two nights, giving patrons a live show from his 2025 album Tranquilizer. Oneohtrix’s most recent album is reminiscent of 90s cyberpunk video games. This work is too hypnotic for background noise and too beautiful to be so short. It is the answering call to a sleep paralysis demon, dragging you through a sedated sleep. Tranquilizer follows a theatrical progression; its beauty lies in harnessing the tension between rising panic and calm. Tranquilizer is but one feather in a many-feathered cap, with Oneohtrix’s most recent partnership with the Safdie brothers on Marty Supreme earning him a Critics Choice nomination for Best Score.
Daniel Lopatin, aka Oneohtrix Point Never, will be opening the 5th annual Long Play Festival, accompanied by fellow New Yorker and French-born multimedia creative Freeka Tet. Oneohtrix Point Never and Freeka Tet will be performing at Pioneer Works on April 29–30. Doors open at 7, and music starts at 8. Tickets are available now here.
