Beck has yet another announcement for fans: he’ll be performing his Song Reader with multiple special guests and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall on November 24.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra will be led by conductor – and Beck’s father – David Campbell. Those joining Beck for the show are actors John C. Reilly and Jack Black, rapper Childish Gambino, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, food critic Jonathan Gold, Colombian artist Juanes, Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis, Fred Martin and the Levite Camp, music supervisor Randall Poster and the incredibly multitalented Jon Brion, Josh Kun, Roger Joseph Manning Jr, Van Dyke Parks and Moses Sumney. All of the listed acts will perform songs and stories inspired by Beck’s sheet music book. Tickets for the event go on sale at 10 AM on November 3 on the LA Philharmonic website.
Song Reader was released in 2012, with a preface in The New Yorker, and Beck was the alt-rock artist’s last big release until the upcoming Morning Phase. He held an event to promote the release in Los Angeles in February of 2013 and performed a song from the book live for the first time in May. Right after Independence Day, he held a show in London in which he and some special guests performed Song Reader for the first time.
Although Beck has not released an album in 2013, he has stayed busy by releasing standalone singles and making live appearances at multiple events. Most recently, he premiered a new song during Station to Station and he headlined at the Treasure Island Music Festival. He doesn’t just play his own songs onstage, though – he simultaneously covered Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and T. Rex’s “Bang A Gong (Get It On)” in Paris. His singles this year include “Defriended,” “I Won’t Be Long” and “Gimme,” which are all available for streaming online.
