One of Fleetwood Mac’s all-time greats is back up and running, thanks to Bat for Lashes. Bat for Lashes, also known as singer-songwriter Natasha Khan, recently blew the 1975 hit “Rhiannon” clear out of the water at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.
“Rhiannon” first appeared off of Fleetwood Mac’s self-title 1975 album – their first to feature new additions Lindsey Buckingham (recent collaborator on an almost-out NIN album) and Stevie Nicks. One of three top-20 singles spawned by the quintuple platinum blockbuster, “Rhiannon” helped propel the band into lasting mainstream success. Instantly recognizable for its guitar line and haunting vocals, the song is a classic example of Nicks’ vocal and songwriting chops.
Bat for Lashes’ cover was absolutely gorgeous. Khan’s voice occasionally sounds like a dead-ringer for Nicks’, but this down-tempo version is also very clearly her own take on the song. Check out the video below.
