The indie rock outfit Dirty Projectors have announced a new EP titled Windows Open, which will be released via Domino records this Friday, March 27th. This latest EP project will contain four new songs, including the nmewly released single titled “Search for Life,” which made its debut earlier today.
The EP contains lead vocals from the group’s guitarist, Maia Friedman, while Dave Longstreth wrote, produced, and mixed the record, in addition to his role as a co-writer for the project. The other members featured on this EP include Felicia Douglass, Kristin Slipp, and Mike Johnson. Longstreth also shot the brief visualizer and lyric video for “Search For Life,” which shows various trees and flowers in bloom.
“Search For Life,” is a brief indie rock track, with a simple acoustic guitar and some string arrangements dominating a majority of the song’s instrumental, accompanied by some choral backing vocals. This eclectic backing instrumental is led by Friedman’s voice, who delivers a soothing performance throughout the track.
The band’s previously released single “Overlord,” which dropped last month will also be featured on this upcoming EP release. Dirty Projectors also released a cover of John Lennon’s track “Isolation” earlier this month, with the proceeds getting donated to COVID-19 relief. Their most recent studio album Lamp Lit Prose came out in 2018.
“To be prose is to be spoken in an ordinary form and maybe that’s exactly what Dirty Projectors wanted–to create an album as true to them as possible,” mxdwn reviewer Ally Tatosian explained. “Lamp Lit Prose is an album with no real direction or destination but it’s full of wit, charm and musical creativity.”
