Since the release of their praised debut album Bergtatt – Et eeventry i 5 capitler in 1995, Grammy nominated Norwegian black metal band Ulver have spent the past 22 years creating hard hitting metal music. Since their career Norwegian natives Kristoffer Rygg, Tore Ylwizaker and Jørn H. Sværen have experimented black metal by mixing it with different genres such psychedelic rock on their cover album Childhood’s End, classic music and electronic music on their album Messe I.X-VI.X, drone metal on their collaborative album Terrestrials with fellow dark lords Sunn O)) and synth-pop on their most recent album The Assassination of Julius Caesar. Yet with all of their years in musical experimenting, it seems like Ulver is nowhere near finished with combining different genres in their sound, especially with the release of their new single “Echo Chamber (Room Of Tears).”
According to Brooklyn Vegan, Ulver shocked the internet as they announced that their upcoming EP Sic Transit Gloria Mundi was coming soon, just after the group was coming off the release of their 11th album The Assassination of Julius Caesar this past April. Though the release for Sic Transit Gloria Mundi has yet to be released, Ulver has dropped the first single off the EP “Echo Chamber (Room Of Tears).” The production of the brand new track sounds like dark metal sprinkled with elements from different genres such as post punk, dub-step, trip hop and electronic music.
