Kate Nash Confronts Systemic Sexism On Powerful New Single & Video “Freedom Of Me”

Today, BRIT Award-winning singer, songwriter, actor and activist Kate Nash has dropped “Freedom of Me,” which is a very timely and powerful new single and video that confronts the misuse of “freedom of speech” and the treatment of women who report sexual abuse. The ditty arrives on the week Russell Brand is on trial and amid coverage of the Cornell 7, which is about a Jane Doe who is suing a Cornell Fraternity for allegedly gang raping her. In the video directed by Irish filmmaker Tom Beard, Nash wears a heretic’s fork, a medieval device used to prevent people from speaking or sleeping.

The single is fromm Nash’s new Cranberries-meets-Bikini Kill album, Cailín, which will be on out January 22, through Kill Rock Stars. Following an incredible cover of Sinéad O’Connor’s “Famine” and “Spilt Milk” (“to defy the ways women are silenced, Nash pointedly, bluntly gets loud” – New York Times), Nash also just announced her North American headline tour that will be stopping in NYC, LA, Chicago, Boston, DC, Philly and other cities.

From her UK No. 1 “Foundations” to the trans ally anthem “GERM” on the US Billboard charts, starring in HBO’s GLOW to inspiring Tems, Kate has built career on sharp hooks and fearless independence – recently funding tours through OnlyFans (NPR) and challenging Spotify’s economics as an advocate for working artists.
